Teesdale Mercury Archive

Aug 22nd 2019.    Users please note:

We have been advised that searches in the years 1960 to 1969 have returned few in any hits.  The issue has been traced to seriously corrupted OCR files. We are currently rescanning and checking ALL of the pages from this period.  Revised OCR files will be uploaded as these become available. To date, files have been replaced for the years 1960-1964, 1968 and 1969.  Users are advised to rerun searches for these years. A significant increase in hits may be experienced.

This online archive and website forms the central resource of the Teesdale Mercury Access Project (TMAP), a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. The Teesdale Mercury is one of the few remaining independent local newspapers in England.  It has been published in Barnard Castle (in the heart of Teesdale, County Durham) since July 1855.
